I’ve been listening to Bry for a while now, seeing him open for twenty one pilots at both London shows only made me fall in love more. This debut album has been long awaited by dedicated fans, desperate to have more from this YouTuber, and after joining the lads from twenty one pilots on tour the album was pushed forward – and I couldn’t be happier about it.
First track ‘Disarm’ pulls you in from the start, infectiously catchy, it’ll have you singing along in no time. This song deals with gender expectations and is a perfect introduction to a brilliant artist. Bry’s music is more than generic love songs or catchy beats, they attempt to address issues and views.
This album is beautifully stripped, songs like ‘Care’ focusing on Bry’s Irish charm and acoustic guitar. There’s so much to fall in love with on this album. Seeing these songs live and hearing them recorded give you two different sides of the same song. You can’t help but tap your feet to the beat and hum along, these songs will crawl inside your brain and make a home there. After all, it was Bry’s songs I was humming following the twenty one pilots show. Bry is present throughout the album, not losing his personality at any point. His character is just as lovable as this album, with ‘Care’ ending with a cheeky “grand” that’ll undoubtedly make you smile.
‘Your Life Over Mine’ is my favourite on this album, I fell in love with it the first time I heard it and nothing has changed. For me, this song captures everything I love about Bry and encapsulates one of the first times I heard him. At live shows this is the song where everyone slows, bringing out their lights and swaying as they sing along.
There isn’t a song on this album that I don’t like, from the more upbeat songs like ‘Everything’ to the stripped ‘Adventure Time’. For me, ‘Adventure Time’ follows a similar vein to ‘Your Life Over Mine’. This is a song that could make you cry, it focuses in on Bry’s brilliant voice that completely overpowers the instruments in the best of ways.
This album demonstrates everything Bry has to offer. ‘Don’t Go Alone’ was the single from this album and it definitely captured the feel of the album. The music video that partners with this song shows how authentic and genuine Bry’s music truly is. Filmed in an airplane bunker, with just himself and his band jamming out to this tune truly captures the artist that Bry is.
I love this album. It’s like sitting in front of the fire on a cold night; beautiful, comforting and warm. Somehow Bry manages to bring you into his world, there’s no exclusion here and you glimpse a place where everything is okay and feelings are fine. If you haven’t already, then go get yourself a copy of this album. Tickets for his upcoming tour are quickly selling out, so grab them whilst you still can.
