I’ve been a fan of Death By Shotgun since seeing them open for Trash Boat in Southampton last year and was super excited to catch them again in Southampton for another show and an interview. This four-piece band melds pop, punk and rock together to create catchy melodies with incredibly relatable lyrics. We talked about favourite desserts, where the band name came from and which song is hardest to play live.
Old Note’s sophomore album, ‘With A Heavy Heart’, is set for release February 16th (Friday) through Old Press Records. The follow up to their debut, ‘former self’, is a healthy evolution. Unlike their debut, this record deals with much darker themes, including suicide, loss, abusive relationships and an overall unease with life. These troubling and evocative lyrics are paired with hypnotic guitars, heavy-hitting percussions and clean vocals that break into screams with palpable intensity.
This show was an odd one; for once it was the opening acts I was there to see rather than With Confidence. Broadside are a band I’ve been following for a while and was overjoyed to get the chance to see this incredible pop-punk band live. Milestones are a band who I had discovered quite recently and loved. However, as with most shows, each band was incredible in their own right and a true pleasure to watch. The show brought in a range of pop-punk sounds, even venturing into other genre’s with Safe To Say. Joiners was a brilliant venue for all these bands, allowing an intimacy which really played into their hands when winning over the crowd.
Immediately after hearing their debut album ‘former self‘ I was completely in love with this band. The trio from California have not been together all that long, but their chemistry and charisma makes it seem like they’ve been together for years. We talked about future goals, a love for Tiny Moving Parts and playing music live.
‘former self’ desperately cries for your attention, and once taking it turns you inside out and upside down. Old Notes, a three-piece emo rock band from California, only formed in April 2016 and a few months later produced this stunning album. With an album that beautifully weaves together elements of emo, ambient rock and pop-punk, it is definitely worth a listen.
Ahead of release at midnight, Pierce The Veil have released ‘Texas Is Forever’ on YouTube. The single is the latest from their new album, ‘Misadventures’ which is set for release on May 13th through Fearless Records.
